THIS HARD COVER BOOK IS COMPLETE AT 471 PAGES NO dust jacket (series was published without dust jackets and came with a sleeve when all volumes were purchased at one time, as a set). Gold-embossed signature of the author on front cover.
About the title: Edward Mandell House (July 26, 1858 – March 28, 1938) was an American diplomat, politician and adviser to President Woodrow Wilson who was known by the nickname Colonel House, although he had performed no military service. A highly influential back-stage politician in Texas before becoming a key supporter of the presidential bid of Wilson in 1912, House did not hold office, but was an "executive agent" and President Wilson's chief advisor on European politics and diplomacy during World War I (1914–18). In 1919 Wilson, suffering from a series of small strokes, broke with House and many other top advisors, believing they had deceived him at Paris.
This first volume in the four-volume series of The Intimate Papers of Colonel House 1912-1915: Behind the Political Curtain begins with the entrance of the United States into World War I and provides a close-up look at the relationship between House and President Wilson and the prevailing political climate within the United States, particularly, during these years.
Condition of book: In EXCELLENT! condition, gold-embossed boards, bearing the author's signature on the front cover, show VERY LITTLE! rub or wear and NO! rips or tears. Book has a strong, sturdy spine and bind with NO! pages separating from it. Internal pages show MINIMAL! foxing - for the age of the book - and include many black-and-white historically-important photographs, many with tissue overleaf and illustrations. All text is clear and legible, all imagery bright and vivid with NO! fading apparent. Book has NO! ripped or torn pages and NO! dog-eared pages. Fabulous condition for its age.
