Complete biography of the life of Canada's most prominent political leader and third-longest serving Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. This biography series covers the life of Trudeau starting with The Making of a Leader and his birth in 1919, his initial term in Office from 1968-1972 and his continued Leadership during some of Canada's most formative years from 1972 through 1984 during which time many of the humanitarian and just causes for which Canada is known were formed and embedded into the cultural psyche of Canadians coast to coast.
Trudeau - or PET as he was often known - was one of the most striking, well-spoken and controversial leaders in Canadian history. He brought with him an almost rock-star aura of popularity to the Office of Prime Minister in the 1960s that has never been rivaled and marked what has become was known as the political phenomenon of "Trudeaumania". In fact, I remember my oldest sister returning from Expo '67 wearing a paper dress with the image of PET emblazoned upon it, front and back. What a great vintage item that would be if I still had it!
Trudeau's eccentricities were regularly mistaken for arrogance and he was often considered a traitor, particularly by those who wanted to see Quebec separated from the rest of Canada, a notion many considered and still consider geographically impossible with Quebec in the middle of the country! During the 1960s, with the province rocked by terrorist bombings and the nation disturbed by civil unrest, Trudeau was determined to put the country in its place. This 3-tape series provides hours of archival footage and interviews with Trudeau himself and details the story of a much misunderstood leader and man who used intelligence and charisma to bring together a country that was very nearly torn apart by the risk of separatism.
In EXCELLENT! vintage condition with original case and sleeves of each of the 3 tapes. Box shows some LIGHT! rub wear about the corners but all in all, in FAB! condition for its age and appearing as hardly used. Fabulous biographical series chronicling the life of one of Canada's most famous people in modern times.
