Vintage (1998) Paul Chester Original Oil on Canvas entitled Winter Sun in solid wood frame.

Originally sold by the Teodora Art Gallery in Toronto, Ontario, Canada during an exhibit by the artist.

About the Artist Paul Chester: Born in 1956, Canadian artist Paul Chester combines both painting and sculptural elements in his uniquely impressionist-inspired works of art. Indeed, this artist in Groovy notices that Mr. Chester seems to work the paint as clay! So much texture here, it is quite awesome!

With oil as his primary medium, Chester builds the surfaces of his canvases with many layers of paint and glazes, thereby crafting intricate, tactile landscapes. The skillful cultivation of paint allows him to shape the canvas by scratching and carving lines on the surface, sometimes exposing the ground beneath the paint. This approach forms grasses, tress and shrubs and serves as a means of providing a rich abstract surface texture. The physicality in the treatment of these canvases is closely connected to Chester's sculptural experience and sustained relationship with his natural surroundings. Employing a seemingly infinite array of colors, detail, texture and light, Paul Chester suggests "the many colors of the changing season inspire my work- from the muted tones of a rainy day, to the colorful vibrancy of a summer garden."

Paul Chester's painting within a painting style recalls Post-Impressionist artist Georges Seurat, who painted "borders" in an Impressionist style around his pointillist images, adjusting the colors of the borders to contrast or coalesce with the colors inside the picture plane. Unlike the Impressionist painters, however, Chester decidedly does not paint open air, i.e. en plein air. His pastoral scenes are poetic expressions that seek to capture the beauty of the terrain begotten from sometimes a flash of memory or a pursuant dream. Chester notes, "the subjects of my oil paintings are restful places and retreats found in the natural landscape – country fields, flowers, rolling hills, forests, horizons, cloud formations, and water scapes. These impressions are painted from memory – they are my visual diaries; peaceful mementos celebrating beauty."

By capturing the essence of a still lake at sunset, a field of grasses waving in the summer breeze, or the dazzling colors of a forest in autumn, Chester triumphs to reveal his own recollections of the 45 acres of woodland surrounding his home in Ontario, Canada. While each work stands alone in its intimate portrayal of the conjured memory of the artist's natural world, the luminosity that highlights the individual landscapes is the essential element that threads Chester's works together.

Does Buy from Groovy offer a layaway option for items that I want?

Currently, Buy from Groovy does NOT offer a layaway plan. However, where an interested Purchaser contacts us to request a HOLD or RESERVE on an item(s), we are most times happy to do so FOR UP TO 48 HOURS. What if I want to return an item I purchased from or cancel on order I placed with Buy from Groovy?

We do NOT accept cancellations of orders and we do NOT offer exchanges. We do NOT accept returns of merchandise unless a Purchaser receives an item(s) in a defective state and such defects vary from, or were not stated in the original listing, or if a Purchaser receives an item(s) totally different from that purchased on the site. In all cases, we ask and expect customers to bring the issue to our attention within 5 days of the item being delivered. We believe, in all fairness, a further delay in reporting an issue is unacceptable. Where a refund is warranted - meaning we made a boo-boo with your order - something we try very hard not to do! - we remain accountable and your refund is typically processed within 2 BUSINESS days through Etsy.

Vintage Board Game, Jigsaw Puzzle and VHS tape Policy.

IN ALL CASES, vintage board games, jigsaw puzzles and VHS tapes are sold AS IS and FINAL SALE. We do our utmost to identify any shortcomings or flaws, as such exist. With games and puzzles, the pieces are inventoried and the status of this inventory is typically stated - IN CAPS - at the top of the product listing.

Board games and puzzles tend to show their age with time. Many times, people may wish to return them simply because, once received, they decide they are not "as new", may even smell of smoke (if the previous owner smoked!) and thus, are not acceptable to them. It should be understood being "as new" would rarely be the case for vintage games and puzzles and we cannot guarantee the prior owner was a non-smoker!

How does Buy from Groovy evaluate or quantify the stated condition of china, ironstone and other ceramic wares?

MINT: NO! chips, nicks, cracks, crazing, fading, marks, stains, or scratches. Usually refers to an UNUSED item such as old store stock.
EXCELLENT: may show MILD! crazing, a fleabite, MINIMAL! fading, or edge wear. Defects will be stated in listing
VERY GOOD: item has NO! cracks, but may have nicks, MINIMAL crazing and or edge loss (where applicable) or fading. Defects will be stated in the listing.
GOOD! or FAIR: may present with ANY OR ALL OF the above issues. Defects will be stated in the listing. Best for use as an extra piece for your service, or as a decorative display item only.
SMELL OF SMOKE: We CANNOT guarantee the prior owner was a non-smoker. Items MAY HAVE A SMELL OF SMOKE.

What is the shipping time frame?

Most items ship out within three (3) BUSINESS days. Where there is a variance to this, such as the order of a very large dinner service or a piece that requires a lot of time and care to package, we will provide an Updated Shipping time frame, where necessary. For those living in more remote areas, in Canada these would be areas such as Northern British Columbia or Alberta, transit times can be from 3-5 BUSINESS days longer than in more urban areas even though your purchase(s) do ship out within the standard time frame.

Sizing and quantity details.

All sizes are given in feet and inches, unless otherwise indicated and are approximations.

Sometimes, BONUS! items are provided and where a BONUS! item is included, it will be referenced in the listing. Photos may show more than one (1) of the same item if more than one (1) is available. This is done to assist buyers, allowing them to see each of the available items to assess their quality and/or appearance given that they may receive any number of the shown items, depending upon the quantity ordered. We provide as many photos, normally, as space permits.

Plate diameters.

Some companies | people list the diameter of a plate or saucer with the INTERNAL FLAT MEASUREMENT, others with the EDGE-TO-EDGE measurements of the plate or saucer. We typically measure from edge to edge and will then indicate if the piece has a coupe shape. This can lead some to believe the diameter of the stated plate or saucer is different than that which they are trying to match. Usually, this perceived disparity in the stated dimension is the result of this edge-to-edge versus internal flat measurement of the piece. If in doubt, DO! feel free to drop us a conversation and we will be pleased to verify the actual dimensions of the item for you against that which you are trying to match.

Do you have a storefront we can visit? Do you offer local pick-up?
